Former VMware CEO re-emerges
VMware co-founder and former CEO Diane Greene has re-emerged as an investor at Nicira, a Palo Alto, Calif. network virtualization startup. According to the company's website, "Nicira is accelerating the transformation to cloud infrastructure by delivering software that virtualizes the network and enables elastic, scale-out data centers." Greene co-founded the virtualization company VMware Inc. in 1998 with her husband, Mendel Rosenblum, who has also since left the company. She was replaced as CEO by Paul Maritz in 2008.

IT managers at the University of Buckingham in the U.K. have extended virtualization from the server room to the classroom, giving students access to virtual infrastructure from several computer labs around campus.

Previously, students in the university's Applied Computing program had access to a single computer lab with only eight PCs. Each PC could be configured as a standalone system, limiting the number of students that could take the class and the number of systems they could use in their test labs.
